‘Eunjoong and Sangyeon’ has revealed its viewing points ahead of its release today (12th).

The Netflix series ‘Eunjoong and Sangyeon’ depicts the intertwined lives of two friends, Eunjoong and Sangyeon, who love, admire, envy, and hate each other throughout their lives.

From Teenagers to 40s, Eunjoong and Sangyeon

The first viewing point of ‘Eunjoong and Sangyeon’ is the panoramic narrative of the two characters that unfolds over decades. Their relationship begins with Sangyeon transferring to Eunjoong's school in their teenage years, leading to a reunion in their 20s at a college club, an uncomfortable meeting in their 30s, and a journey to Switzerland in their 40s to assist Sangyeon’s deceased partner.

Although they were inseparable friends, Eunjoong and Sangyeon drifted apart due to feelings of jealousy and admiration, allowing viewers to fully follow the emotional lines of the characters as they revisit numerous events they experienced together. Director Jo Young-min stated, “I always pondered how viewers could empathize with the feelings of liking someone, hating someone, and the contradictory emotions of loving yet hating.”

Kim Go-eun, who plays Eunjoong, said, “Ultimately, it’s a story about accepting each other as they are,” while Park Ji-hyun, who plays Sangyeon, expressed, “I hope it remains a work that is realistic yet not ordinary, something I would want to watch multiple times.”

‘Eunjoong and Sangyeon’ is expected to resonate deeply with viewers by intricately portraying complex emotions such as love-hate, admiration, and inferiority that one might have felt towards a friend.

The Special Chemistry of Kim Go-eun and Park Ji-hyun

The second viewing point is the acting prowess of Kim Go-eun and Park Ji-hyun, who perfectly transform into Eunjoong and Sangyeon, along with a stellar ensemble cast including Kim Gun-woo, Jang Hye-jin, Seo Jeong-yeon, Lee Sang-yoon, Kim Jae-won, Cha Hak-yeon, and Gong Min-jung. Kim Go-eun, who has showcased her talent in films like ‘Love Law of Big Cities’ and ‘Burial’, as well as dramas like ‘Little Women’ and ‘Yumi's Cells’, takes on the role of Eunjoong.

Kim Go-eun shared, “I found it very interesting to deal with a person’s entire life. It was a challenge for me, and I wanted to capture the details of the flowing story well,” raising expectations for her performance that delicately portrays Eunjoong’s complex feelings towards Sangyeon.

The other protagonist, Sangyeon, is played by Park Ji-hyun, who has demonstrated a wide acting spectrum across various genres in films like ‘Hidden Face’ and dramas like ‘Chaebol X Detective’ and ‘Do You Like Brahms?’.

Park Ji-hyun stated, “Since I had to portray various ages and periods, I tried to give differences in my performance. I researched to slightly alter my tone not just in hair and styling but also in acting,” focusing attention on his performance that perfectly embodies Sangyeon from her 20s to 40s. The dense acting ensemble, including Kim Gun-woo, Jang Hye-jin, Seo Jeong-yeon, Lee Sang-yoon, Kim Jae-won, Cha Hak-yeon, and Gong Min-jung, adds depth to the story, completing the diverse narrative of Eunjoong and Sangyeon.

From Retro Props to an OST that Enhances Immersion by 200%

The background of the work, spanning from the 1990s to the 2020s, reflects the flow and changes of each era, adding to the viewing pleasure. Director Jo Young-min mentioned, “I tried to maintain a tone that allows viewers to feel the emotions of the two without exaggeration,” conveying the relationship and situations of the two through the lyrics and melodies of the OST, sparking curiosity. Trusted artists like Choi Yu-ri, Paul Kim, Jay Rabbit, and Kwon Jin-ah participate to make the audience deeply immersed in the narrative of the two friends.

Expectations are high for the performances of Kim Go-eun and Park Ji-hyun, who will delicately and empathetically portray the diverse emotional chronicle exchanged over the long years between Eunjoong and Sangyeon, as well as the story that will make viewers reminisce about their memories with friends.
