Two women have been indicted without detention for extorting over 200 million won from popular Mukbang YouTuber Tzuyang (real name Park Jung-won) through threats.
According to the legal community on the 9th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office's Criminal Division 3 (Chief Prosecutor Choi Soon-ho) has indicted a woman in her 30s, referred to as A, and a woman in her 20s, referred to as B, for joint extortion under the Act on the Punishment of Violent Acts.
A and others are accused of threatening Tzuyang from June 2021 to November 2022, extorting 216 million won through Tzuyang's YouTube channel producer.
In a YouTube video last July, Tzuyang revealed, “Three years ago, the representative of my former agency (my ex-boyfriend) mentioned these two women and said, ‘They are threatening me.’ He suggested that I pay them to silence them, and reluctantly, the producer went to meet them and ended up giving them 216 million won over two years.”
After receiving a complaint from the producer last July, the police began an investigation and applied for arrest warrants for A and others, but the court rejected the request. The prosecution, which took over the case, conducted supplementary investigations and subsequently indicted them.
