Pop star Michael Bolton (72), known for numerous hit songs including "When a Man Loves a Woman," is currently battling a malignant brain tumor.
On the 30th (local time), U.S. entertainment media People reported that Bolton, after receiving a cancer diagnosis and halting his singing activities, gave his first interview to the outlet, sharing updates on his health condition.
Bolton announced via Instagram last January that he underwent brain surgery and would be suspending his ongoing tour. According to People and other sources, Bolton was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a malignant brain tumor, in December 2023 and underwent emergency surgery to remove the tumor.
He had a second brain surgery last January due to an infection and completed radiation and chemotherapy treatments by October of the same year. He is now monitored for tumor recurrence with MRI scans every two months. The recurrence rate for this type of tumor is reported to be around 90%.
Bolton revealed that he finds comfort spending time with his two daughters and six grandchildren. He also mentioned that he practices meditation daily, enjoys golfing, and is taking vocal lessons.
He stated that this battle has made him feel "greater gratitude," saying, "We learn how to make the best of bad situations." He added, "Giving in to these challenges is not an option. I want to keep moving forward," expressing that he feels there is still much to do in terms of his fight against the illness.
Bolton transitioned from being part of a rock band to a solo singer-songwriter and dominated the pop scene in the 1980s and 1990s. Over nearly 50 years of activity, he has sold over 75 million records and won two Grammy Awards.
His hit songs include "When a Man Loves a Woman," "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You," "To Love Somebody," "Love Is a Wonderful Thing," and "All for Love."
