Actors Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo will star in No Hee-kyung's new work 'Slowly but Intensely', marking their first collaboration.
On the 10th, Netflix confirmed the production of the new series 'Slowly but Intensely' (tentative title) and revealed the casting lineup, which includes Song Hye-kyo, Gong Yoo, Kim Seol-hyun, Cha Seung-won, and Lee Ha-nee. 'Slowly but Intensely' is set against the backdrop of the Korean entertainment industry during the 1960s to 1980s, a time rife with barbarism and violence, and tells the growth story of those who, despite having nothing, threw themselves into pursuing their shining dreams of success.
'Slowly but Intensely' is written by No Hee-kyung, known for her works that have brought tears, laughter, and empathy to many, such as 'Our Blues', 'Dear My Friends', 'It's Okay, That's Love', 'That Winter, the Wind Blows', and 'The World They Live In'. With her previous works receiving immense love from viewers, there is great anticipation for what she will present this time through Netflix, as her name alone draws intense interest.
Adding to the excitement, director Lee Yoon-jung, known for her high-quality and entertaining works such as 'Coffee Prince', 'Cheese in the Trap', and 'Heart to Heart', will be directing the series.
The casting is exceptionally strong. Song Hye-kyo, who has renewed her life characters in every project she has appeared in, including Netflix series 'The Glory', dramas 'Boyfriend', 'Descendants of the Sun', 'That Winter, the Wind Blows', and films 'The Black Nun', 'My Life's Last Love', will showcase another legendary transformation in 'Slowly but Intensely'. The character 'Min-ja', played by Song Hye-kyo, is someone who has developed a strong inner self through various hardships in her childhood. While living a tough life, she boldly throws herself into the Korean music industry, seeking opportunities. As she collaborates with writer No Hee-kyung for the third time following 'The World They Live In' and 'That Winter, the Wind Blows', expectations are high for the new side she will show through 'Min-ja' in 'Slowly but Intensely'.
Gong Yoo, known for leaving a strong impact across genres from dramas 'Goblin', 'Coffee Prince', and films 'The Age of Shadows', 'Train to Busan' to the recent Netflix series 'Squid Game' Season 2 and 'Trunk', will take on the role of 'Dong-goo'. 'Dong-goo' is a friend who has grown up with 'Min-ja', experiencing various events together since childhood, and later enters the music industry alongside her. He is a character full of surprises, but possesses a pure nature that listens to everything 'Min-ja' says. Fans are excited to hear that Gong Yoo will be reuniting with director Lee Yoon-jung after 'Coffee Prince'.
Cha Seung-won, Lee Ha-nee, and Kim Seol-hyun also join the cast, completing a dazzling lineup.
Kim Seol-hyun, who has been steadily building her filmography with dramas 'Lighting Store', 'I Don't Want to Do Anything', 'Murderer's Shopping List', and films 'The Great Battle', 'Murderer's Memory', 'Gangnam 1970', will play 'Min-hee', who has a complicated relationship with 'Min-ja' since childhood. Through 'Min-hee', Kim Seol-hyun will showcase a multi-faceted character, from her innocent and obedient side that follows 'Min-ja' to her sharp and rebellious aspects.
Cha Seung-won, who has shown unique charisma and a strong presence in Netflix films 'The Drug King', 'The Night of the Undead', and dramas 'One Day', 'Tyrant', and 'Best Love', will portray 'Gil-yeo', the greatest composer of the time. 'Gil-yeo' is a major figure in the music industry who has successfully launched every singer that has passed through his hands. After 'Our Blues', Cha Seung-won will once again collaborate with writer No Hee-kyung, and he is expected to surprise viewers with the once-in-a-lifetime character 'Gil-yeo'.
Lee Ha-nee, who has demonstrated solid acting skills and an irreplaceable charm in films 'Alien + Human', 'Killing Romance', 'Ghost', 'Extreme Job', and dramas 'Hot Blooded Priest' series, and 'Flowers Bloom at Night', will play 'Yang-ja', the mother of 'Min-hee' who dreams of becoming a singer. Lee Ha-nee will portray the perseverance and passion of 'Yang-ja', who does not give up on her dream of becoming a singer despite her difficult circumstances and harsh reality.
'Slowly but Intensely', which began filming last month, will be released on Netflix.
