Netflix has issued a statement refuting claims made by some organizations that the second season of its original series 'Squid Game' could generate at least 1.5 trillion won in revenue.
On the 1st, Netflix stated, "There are parts that are completely different from the facts regarding the individual revenue analysis of 'Squid Game' Season 2 released by a domestic research organization," and emphasized, "It is impossible to estimate revenue based on the success of a single work."
They continued, "Estimating or predicting additional revenue for individual works is suitable for box office performance based on theater ticket sales or revenue analysis of VOD services that operate on a pay-per-view basis," adding, "This cannot be applied to subscription services where members pay a fixed amount each month to watch content unlimitedly."
They expressed concern, stating, "We are worried that incorrect analyses or claims that can lead to significant misunderstandings about the corporate structure may spread inaccurate information."
Previously, media research institute K-Entertech Hub projected that Netflix's original series 'Squid Game' Season 2 (hereafter 'Squid Game 2') would invest 100 billion won, four times that of the previous season, and forecasted that it would generate at least 1.5 trillion won in revenue.
According to Netflix's official tally, 'Squid Game' Season 2 ranked first in the world for non-English TV series in its opening week with 487.6 million hours viewed.
