The person who reported singer IU to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States for prepaying for participants of the impeachment rally against President Yoon Suk-yeol was an American female YouTuber.
As of the 18th, the YouTube channel 'Cheonjo-guk Parang-i', which has 87,200 subscribers, has uploaded videos titled 'I reported IU to the CIA' and 'How to report IU to the CIA'.
In the video, the individual identified as A stated in English that her political stance is conservative, claiming, "Our IU, who is awake and sings well, actively supports those who support the impeachment rally and even provided food, promoting the atmosphere for impeachment."
She continued, "It seems like people are trying to come out in droves to support the impeachment of Yoon Suk-yeol, and to spread IU's thoughts further, I informed the CIA about IU's actions," adding, "You all should also inform the CIA about our wonderful Korean entertainers who are awake."
She then exclaimed, "IU, just get wrecked," and hurled insults. She also displayed photos of celebrities who supported the impeachment on the broadcast screen.
A recently sent an email to the CIA stating, "IU has recently shown support for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol and has even prepaid for food for the rally participants at a restaurant near where the impeachment rally is being held, actively helping the rally."
She further claimed, "IU is very famous in Korea and has tremendous influence. It is expected that the U.S. does not look favorably upon such presidential impeachment movements in Korea. Also, Koreans who participated in the protests have recently been denied U.S. visas and entry," adding, "I report IU, who is engaging in inappropriate actions that create an atmosphere for impeachment."
IU's agency announced that on the 14th, the day of the second vote on the impeachment motion against President Yoon, they prepaid for 100 breads, 100 drinks, 100 bowls of soup, 100 servings of gomtang, 100 servings of tteokguk, and more at restaurants and cafes in Yeouido, Seoul, where the impeachment rally was held, stating that anyone attending the rally, even if not a member of the official fan club 'Uena', could receive food and hot packs in order of arrival.
